TV Talk: Day 28

Tv show: Murder She Wrote

Aired: September 30, 1984 – May 19, 1996

About: Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) Is a mystery writer who is also a amateur detective.

Would I recommend: Yes. Its a really good show.

Other Info: It has 12 seasons and 4 TV Movies.

Bad Movie Watch: Day 30

Movie: Miami Vice

Year: 2006

Budget: 135 million dollars

About: James “Sonny” Crockett (Collin Farrell) and his partner Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) go undercover to fight a drug trafficking operation.

Review: It was actually not a bad movie. It has its cheesy moments though.

Other Info: The soundtrack was supposed to be composed by Jan Hammer but he didn’t want to be involved. So they got someone else to do it instead. There are two versions of this movie, a theatrical version and a extended cut version. The only difference is the run-time and the opening scene. In the theatrical version it just starts up in the nightclub. However in the extended cut it starts out with a opening sequence with the boats riding on the water before it switches to the nightclub scene. The theatrical version’s run time is 132 minutes while the extended cut is 140 minutes.

Extra Info: It earned 163.8 million dollars in the box office.

Additional Info: I have seen both the extended cut and the theatrical cut of the movie. If I have to pick which version is better, I would say the extended cut but only because of the addition of a opening scene. Its the only version with it since the theatrical cut starts out in the nightclub scene.

TV Talk: Day 27

Tv show: Miami Vice

About: James “Sonny” Crockett (Don Johnson) and his Partner, Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) are two detectives with the Metro-Dade Police Department who work undercover in Miami.

Would I recommend: Yes I would. I enjoy the setting and the score by Jan Hammer.

Other Info: There was a movie called Miami Vice with Collin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. It was released in 2006. It is also a film adaptation of the tv show.

Extra Info: You can find DVDs of this show in it’s normal language, but you can also find DVDs of the show in French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Its kinda weird watching old tv shows. Well, weird in a good way of course. All of these shows I never heard about until now. Tv shows back then were either good or bad depending on the show itself. They were either original ideas or from some sort of source material.

But I can’t understand why we can’t have those kind of shows anymore. I mean, all we get now are reboots, revivals or anything of the sort. The only shows I watch are ones I heard about or did research about it online.

I guess we live in that age now where things are being rebooted or revived. As long as we enjoy the shows we are watching, I think thats what really matters most. But at some point, tv shows will come to an end or get cancelled due to low ratings or something of the sort.

All we can do for now is watch our favorite shows. Past, or Present. Or even Future for that matter.

TV Talk: Day 26

Tv show: Magnum P.I.

Aired: December 11th, 1980 – May 8th, 1988

About: Thomas Magnum is a private investigator solving cases in Hawaii.

Would I recommend: Yes, I would. Its really good and I enjoy the setting, and of course the main character himself.

Other Info: There have been crossover episodes with Murder She Wrote and also Simon and Simon. Depending on the crossover the plot concluded on their shows respectively. However, for re-runs and broadcast overseas, they filmed alternate endings instead so its more of a stand alone story and it wraps things up instead of being a two parter episode.
